L?Amour fou: The Public Life of Yves Saint Laurent

There is no other way through which one can partake in the intensity of drama in the celebrated documentary other than to watch it. It begins and ends with the designer?s words of farewell to his high end career in a press conference in 2002. The film startles its audience, utilizing the best in language with opulence and inimitability that one actually knows it is scripted, but in a magical line of action.

L’amour Fou is documentary about the public life of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge

Then Pierre Berge, his significant other and business partner, tells their story from the day they met at Christian Dior?s funeral to the auction that blew headlines for earning sums and sums and sums of sales. The public life of Yves Saint Laurent was as imeldific as the world of fashion. He was indeed a grand legend and left a renowned tale from the day of his passing which prompted Director Pierre Thoretton to feature the design genius in his film. For a while the story overwhelms us with the glamour that the industry of couture, pr?t-a-porter and mass produced clothes has to offer and which Saint Laurent has grabbed with all the glory of his career.

Little by little, it glooms the atmosphere, appearing before our eyes a sad and slightly tragic coming of end. The story could?ve been made most out of his fifty years of amazing creation, fashion authoritarianism, and wonders that had it possible for him to practice such an extravagant lifestyle, not to mention those big name paintings and antique vases.

Yet the documentary is so well-generated that it is an Official Selection of the Toronto and Tribeca Film? Festival . Berge shares to the world their love that lasted decades and although met challenges along the way, still ended up in marriage preceding Saint Laurent?s death. The wardrobe is are wonderful and the couple?s houses even more wondrous. Love for fashion, love for home and love for the world sums up the whole film. And even if it is certainly more about material possessions than the great man himself, a standing ovation for such a passionate revelation and a magically crafted picture is pretty much deserved.
