Fashion Designer Christian Dior

Christian Dior was born 1905 in Normandy, France. Dior was involved in military duties for years, and earned a degree in political science. His indescisions brought him back to Paris in 1935. He began selling sketches, where he made successful hat designs, and less successful dress designs.

In 1935, Rober Piguet hired him for his improved dress designs. He returned to the south of France during the war and again returned to Paris in 1941. This time, he worked for Lucien Lelong ? a much larger design house, and eventually, in 1946 he had opened his own with help from textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac.

His first design ideas spoke to the severe living conditions of Post-War France. Dior made France the capital of world-fashion after the war was over, and Dior became the greatest dictator of style known to man in the fifties. Dior also became pioneer for licenced agreements in fashion, to separate production centers, and to spread the brand around the world much quicker.

Designer Yves Saint Laurent became his assistant in 1953. Dior passed away in 1957, and his death was sudden. Saint Lauren became the head designer instead, and was the first to introduce the Trapeze dress in Dior’s house. Saint Lauren was called for military in 1960, and Marc Bohan was the one to now take over before Gianfranco Ferre became the designer for Dior in 1989. Ferre stayed as designer as until 1996.

Being the steady ?brothership for design name brand?, John Galliano became the next up for question to take over. He designed for Dior for many year, as well as Alexander McQueen.

Christian Dior has a few selected lines:

Haute Couture, Haute Fourrier (Furs), Christian Dior Boutique, Christian Dior Boutiques Fourrier (furs.)
Christian Dior Cordinee discontinued in 1994.

Dior has won awards such as The Neiman-Marcus Award in 1947 and The Personal Medal for Distinguished Achievement in 1956.

Dior has over 160 Boutiques and duty free shopping around the globe. 15 of them are in Japan.

Christian Dior S.A has since 1960 belonged to Europes luxury manufacturer Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton owned and operated by Bernard Arnault. This company is listed as Paris stock exchange, where Christian Dior held roughly when at highest number 42% of the assets, and other brands belonging to this group are: Kenzo, Givenchy, Christian Lacroix and Louis Vuitton. In 1996, the brands together had made nearly 6.33 billion USD.
