Whether a girl breaks down or shouts for joy, Mister Jay remains smiling and composed as he directs photoshoots at America?s Next Top Model. He is the light that comes with the cameras as his co-hosts the show and gives the aspiring models advice on how to strike a pose.
Jay Manuel, 36, is not only some person making orders behind the camera, but a model and stylist. In the ANTM spin-off Canada?s Next Top Model Cycles 2 and 3, he gets to be the host and lead judge. The Canadian real-tv personality was born in Toronto, Ontario to a mother of Italian and Czech descent and a South African father of Malaysian and Dutch descent, making him one of the people who is able to pull off his being multiracial with a good combination of genes. His skin is indeed flawless so it brings others to wonder if he?s wearing fake tan, been through Botox, or had his teeth whitened. But he did admit to wearing lip gloss on TV, and intentionally having silver hair. ?OK, so that?s fake,? he admits. ?I must be the only person in the world who wishes they had some greys coming through.?

As a stylist, he hosts his own show Style Her Famous, where ordinary women get a makeover based on the style of their favorite celebrity. ?I was obsessed with clothes as a teenager and used to dress my little sister in big sweaters, bangles and Swatch watches and pretend we were doing photo shoots, but I never had an idea of how I could make it into a career,? Jay says, never expecting that he would one day have clients like Jennifer Lopez, or going to Miley Cyrus?s 16th birthday.
Before Jay Manuel ever stepped into the insane worlds of fashion and entertainment, he was a pre-med student. Not surprising for a son of a kidney specialist father and a teacher mom. Later, he studied music at New York University, even working for at metropolitan Opera for some time, and there he met his fate as stylist and makeup artist, which he never knew would come his way. One of his opera teachers was asked to play a part in the publicity shoot of The Age of Innocence, directed by Martin Scorsese. Since she needed somebody to do her makeup, Jay grabbed the chance and impressed the whole team, leading to styling Luciano Pavarotti and singing no more.
For a break away from the city, Mister Jay heads to his place at Catkills, NY, where he grows a beard and hikes all day. It?s an ideal place for celebrities like him, where there aren?t any cameras flashing or fans and other viewers get to see what he?s doing. Jay is happy being blessed with what he has, including his own makeup line, Manuel Override. At present, he continues to make Tyra Banks beautiful, as her personal makeup artist.
